David Booth was born November 24, 1984 in Detroit, Michigan. Frorida's third choice, 53rd overall in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Booth is a graduate of the NCAA's Michigan State Spartans.

An aggressive and highly skilled forward, Booth spent four years honing his skills at Michigan State where in his freshman season he led all rookies in scoring. In 2006-07, Booth made his professional hockey debut and split his season with the Florida Panthers and their AHL affiliate in Rochester. Booth became a regular in the Panther line-up in 2007-08, appearing in 73 games he notched 40 points.

Internationally, Booth won a gold medal representing his homeland at the 2004 IIHF Under-20 World Championship. He made his first World Championships appearance at the 2008 tournament.
