Scott Lehman was born on January 5, 1986 in Windsor, Ontario. He played his junior hockey for the St. Michael's Majors of the Ontario Hockey League and was selected 76th overall by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

The first two seasons of the defenseman's career were split between the Chicago Wolves of the AHL and the Gwinnett Gladiators of the ECHL.

In 2008-09, Lehman received his first call up to the NHL, appearing in a single game for the Thrashers.
