Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Alexei Emelin
Alexei Emelin was born on April 25, 1986 in Tolyatti, Soviet Union. A standout in his home country, Emelin was selected in the third round of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by the Montreal Canadiens.

Following stints in the KHL and its predecessor, the RSL, Emelin would join the Canadiens for the 2011-12 season. He would see action in 67 games for the club, scoring three goals, adding four assists, while proving to be a reliable defender.

Emelin would return to the KHL to begin the 2012-13 season due to the NHL lockout. When play resumed in the NHL, he would re-join the Canadiens and appear in 38 games where he continued to established himself as one of Montreal's most reliable defenceman, until a knee injury suffered on April 6, 2013, would end his season and keep out of the post-season.

After six season with Montreal, Emelin was left unprotected at the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft and was selected by the Vegas Golden Knights. Days later he was traded to the Nashville Predators in exchange for a third round draft pick.

On the international stage, Emelin has represented his native Russia on numerous occasions. This is highlighted by a gold medal performance at the 2012 IIHF World Championship. He also represented Russia on home soil at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
