Wes O'Neill was on born March 3, 1986 in Windsor, Ontario. The defenseman was drafted 115th overall by the New York Islanders in 2004.

ONeill played his collegiate hockey at the storied Notre Dame University prior to beginning his professional career. His professional career would also begin with a storied team, the Johnstown Cheifs, the team that inspired the film, Slapshot.

After signing as a free agent with the Colorado Avalanche, ONeill would make his NHL debut in 2008-09.
