Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Roman Polak
Roman Polak was born April 28th, 1986 in Ostrava, Czech Republic. The St. Louis Blues' 6th round, 180th overall selection in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Polak spent three years in the Czech Jr. league before he made his North American debut in 2004.

A defensive defenceman, Polak spent a season in the WHL with the Kootenay Ice before returning to the Czech Republic. He later returned to North America the following year and started his season with the St. Louis Blues in October of 2006. After seeing limited action in St. Louis, he was demoted to the Blues' AHL affiliate in Peoria. Over the course of his first professional season, he would spend 53 games with Peoria and become one of the club's top defenceman.

After eight seasons with the Blues, Polak was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs for Carl Gunnarsson and a fourth round draft pick.

In his first season with the Maple Leafs Polak would appear in 56 games, scoring five times while providing the club with a gritty presence on the back end. His time in Toronto would come to an end midway through the 2015-16 season. He was traded along with Nick Spaling to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a pair of draft picks. Polak would finish the season with the Sharks, helping the club reach the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in franchise history.

As a free agent in the summer of 2016, Polak signed a deal to return to the Toronto Maple Leafs. He would go on to appear in 75 games for the club, helping the Leafs return to the playoffs for the first time since 2013. A free agent once again in the summer of 2018, Polak signed a one-year deal to join the Dallas Stars.

On the international stage, Polak has represented his native Czech Repulic six times. This includes two World Junior Championships (2005, 2006), two World Championships (2009, 2014), and a Winter Olympic Games in 2014.
