Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Karri Ramo
Karri Ramo was born July 1, 1986 in Asikkala, Finland. Tampa Bay's sixth round, 191st overall selection in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Ramo is a graduate of HeKi of Heinola, Finland. After being drafted by the Lightning in 2004, and signing with the club in 2006, Ramo made his North American debut with the team's AHL affiliate in Springfield later that year. That season Ramo competed in 45 games with the club and was the team's lone representative in the AHL All-Star Game. He also saw action in his first NHL game that year after being called up by the Lightning in a relief role.

On the international stage, Ramo has represented Finland at the Under 18 Tournament Championships (2004), the World Junior Championships (2005), and the World Championships (2008). He captured a bronze medal in the 2008 World Championships.

After spending most of 2008-09 in Norfolk of the American Hockey League, Ramo joined Avangard Omsk of the KHL prior to the 2009-10 season.

In the summer of 2010 Ramo's NHL rights were traded to the Montreal Canadiens. Ramo would not suit up for Montreal however. He would spend the next three seasons with Avangard Omsk and post impressive numbers, including goals against averages of 1.97 and 1.96 in 2011 and 2012 respectively.

On January 12, 2012, along with Michael Cammalleri and a 5th-round pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Ramo was traded to the Calgary Flames in exchange for René Bourque, Patrick Holland and draft pick.

Ramo inked a two-year deal with the Flames in the summer of 2013 and won the Flames starting goaltending job with a strong pre-season. In 40 games for the Flames during the 2013-14 season, Ramo would record 17 wins to go along with a 2.65 goals against average and .911 save percentage.
