Raitis Ivanans was born January 1, 1979 in Riga, Latvia. A free-agent signing of the Montreal Canadiens in the summer of 2004, Ivanans is a hulking forward who toiled in the minors for eight seasons before making his NHL debut with Montreal in 2005-06.

Following his stint with the Canadiens, Ivanans was signed as a free agent by the Los Angeles Kings on July 13, 2006.

On the international scene, Ivanans represented his homeland at the 2008 World Championships.

In the summer of 2010, the tough guy left the warm weather of Los Angeles, signing with the Calgary Flames as an unrestricted free agent.
