Matt Lashoff was born September 29, 1986 in Albany New York. Selected first round, twenty-second overall by the Boston Bruins in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Lashoff is a graduate of the OHL's Kitchener Rangers.

As a member of the Kitchener Rangers, Lashoff appeared in 162 games and tallied 93 points. Upon completion of his junior career in Kitchener, Lashoff appeared in seven regular season, and six post-season games with the Providence Bruins. The following year Lashoff was a regular in the Providence Bruins line-up. In Providence, he would lead all denfesemen in scoring with 36 points and be named to the AHL All-Rookie Team. His determination and consistency in the "A" earned him twelve games with the Boston Bruins throughout the 2006-07 season.

After appearing in 16 games during the 2008-09 season with the Boston Bruins, Lashoff was sent to the Tampa Bay Lightning at the trade deadline in exchange for veteran forward Mark Recchi.

After just one season in the Lightning organization, splitting time in the AHL and NHL, Lashoff was shipped to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for Alex Berry and Stefano Gillati.
