Taylor Chorney was born April 27, 1987, in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada and is a duel citizen of the United States and Canada. He was raised in Hastings, Minnesota.

Chorney was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers with the 36th overall pick in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. He played his collegiate hockey at the University of North Dakota and was also a member of Team USA at the 2006 World Junior Championships. Chorney represented the USA again in the 2007 World Juniors, where he was team captain.

Taylor spent the majority of the 2008-09 season in the AHL with the Springfield Falcons, but did manage to appear in two games for the Oilers.

During the 2011-12 season, Chorney was placed on waivers and was claimed by the St. Louis Blues on October 11, 2011. After only playing two games with the Blues, Chorney found himself back on waviers, where he was claimed by the Oilers once again about a month later.

At the conclusion of the 2011-12 season, Chorney signed a one year contract with the St. Louis Blues.

Two seasons later, he left the Blues as an unrestricted free agent and signed a one year contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins for the 2014-15 season.

Chorney only played seven games with the Penguins, before he left again as a free agent and signed a one year deal with the Washington Capitals for the 2015-16 season.

Chorney comes by his hockey skill naturally, his father, Marc, played 210 games in the NHL for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Los Angeles Kings.
