Scott Jackson was born on February 5, 1987 in Salmon Arm, British Columbia. A product of the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League, he was selected in the seceond round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft by the St. Louis Blues.

Unsigned by the Blues following his junior career, Jackson inked a deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning as free agent in the summer of 2008. He joined the club's AHL affiliate and in 2010 was called up to make his NHL debut in the final game of the 2009-10 season.
