Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Cody Franson
Cody Franson was born on August 8, 1987 in Sicamous, British Columbia. He played his junior hockey for the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League, with whom he helped capture the 2007 Memorial Cup title on home ice. In addition to his WHL success, Franson was also part of the gold medal-winning Canadian team at the 2007 World Junior Championship held in Sweden.

Drafted in the third round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft by the Nashville Predators, Franson made his professional debut for the club's AHL affiliate, the Milwaukee Admirals in 2007.

After two season in Milwaukee, Franson made the jump to the NHL in 2009-10 and the big defenseman did not disappoint. His offensive numbers were strong for a rookie rearguard and his plus-15 rating was tops among all NHL first-year players.

On July 3, 2011, Franson's time in Nashville would come to an end. He was traded along with Matthew Lombardi to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for Brett Lebda and Robert Slaney.

Franson played almost four seasons with the Maple Leafs before he was traded back to Nashville, along with Mike Santorelli, for Olli Jokinen, Brendan Leipsic, and a first round draft choice.

As a free agent after the 2014-15 season, Franson signed a two year contract with the Buffalo Sabres on September 10, 2015.
