Shaun Heshka was born on July 30, 1985 in Melville, Saskatchewan. A product of the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League, he went undrafted and signed on with the Vancouver Canucks in the summer of 2006.

Heshka spent his first professional season splitting time between the ECHL and AHL before eventually finding his home with the Canucks' AHL affiliate, the Manitoba Moose.

On June 27, 2009, Heshka was traded to the Phoenix Coyotes and got his first taste of NHL action with the club that November. He would appear in eight games for the Coyotes during the 2009-10 season, recording a pair of assists.
