Jamie Hunt was born April 20, 1984 in Calgary, Alberta. Undrafted, Hunt honed his skills with the Mercyhurst College of the AHA over three years.

An offensive defenceman, Hunt capped off his stint at Mercyhurst by leading all Atlantic Hoceky Association defencemen in scoring with 45 points. In his first year of professional hockey, he appeared in 36 games for Hershey and made his NHL debut with the Washington Capitals in a December 29 game against the Devils.
