Matthew Corrente was born on March 17, 1988 in Mississauga, Ontario. A product of the Ontario Hockey League, Corrente played his junior hockey with the Saginaw Spirit as well and the Mississauga and Niagara Ice Dogs.
Corrente was selected in the first round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by the New Jersey Devils and made his professional debut for the club's AHL affiliate in Lowell in 2008. During the 2009-10 season, the rugged blueliner made his NHL debut with New Jersey, appearing in 12 games for the club, providing physical play from the backend and even playing the wing on occasion.
