Alex Biega was born on April 4, 1988 in Montreal, Quebec. The product of Harvard University was drafted in the fifth round, 147th overall, in the 2006 Entry Draft by the Buffalo Sabres.

At the conclusion of his career in Harvard, Biega signed his NHL entry contract with the Sabres. The Sabres placed him with their AHL affiliate, the Portland Pirates for his rookie season in 2010-11. Biega moved along with the rest of the Sabres prospect when they switched their affiliation to the Rochester Americans, where he would spend the next two seasons.

On July 3, 2013, Biega left the Sabres as an unrestricted free agent to sign with the Vancouver Canucks. He played parts of two seasons with their AHL affiliate, the Utica Comets, before he was given a chance at the NHL level. On February 16, 2015, Biega made his NHL debut and scored his first NHL goal during a 3-2 victory over the Minnesota Wild.
