Artūrs Kulda was born on July 25, 1988 in Riga, Latvia. Drafted 200th overall at the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the Atlanta Thrashers, he made his professional debut in the AHL for the Chicago Wolves in 2007 and helped the club to a Calder Cup championship in 2008.

In February 2010 Kulda made his NHL debut for the Thrashers in a game against the Minnesota Wild. He would go on to appear in four games during the 2009-10 season for the club, registering a pair of assists.
