Gabe Gauthier was born January 20, 1984 in Torrance, California. Undrafted, Gauthier is a graduate of the NCAA's University of Denver Pioneers.

A firery competitior, Gauthier finished his four-year career with the University of Denver after tallying 155 points in 164 games. He helped guide the Pioneers to back-to-back national championships in 2004 and 2005. After graduating from the University of Denver, he was signed by the Los Angeles as an unrstriced free agent in the summer of 2006. Prior to making his NHL debut Gauthier was sent to the Kings' AHL affilate in Manchester where he would compete in 69 games. That same season, he made his NHL debut in a March 11th game against the Dallas Satrs.
