Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Sam Gagner
Sam Gagner was born August 10, 1989 in Oakville, Ontairo. The first round, 6th overall selection of the Edmonton Oilers in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft is a graduate of the OHL's London Knights.

An offensive-minded centre, Gagner tallied 35 goals and added 83 assists for 118 points in his only year in London. The following season, Gagner made the Oiler's roster out of training camp and went on to appear in 79 games with the club. His 13 goals and 36 assists were fifth best among rookie point producers, and the young forward averaged over fifteen minutes of ice-time per game.

After seven years in Edmonton, Gagner was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning for Teddy Purcell on June 29, 2014. A few minutes after that trade went through, the Lightning turned around and traded Gagner, along with B.J. Crombeen to the Arizona Coyotes for a sixth round draft pick.

Gagner would appear in 81 games for the Coyotes during the 2014-15 season, scoring 15 times and adding 26 assists. The following summer, Gagner was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers along with a conditional draft pick return in exchange for Nicklas Grossmann and the contract of Chris Pronger. He would suit up in 53 games for the Flyers, scoring eight times and adding eight assists.

Gagner found himself a free agent in the summer of 2016 and on August 1, 2016, he signed a one-year deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets. He would go on to appear in 81 games for the club during the 2016-17 season, scoring 18 goals and adding 32 assists for a career-high 50 points. A free agent again the following summer, Gagner inked a three-year deal with the Vancouver Canucks.

On the international stage, Gagner helped Canada to the gold medal at the 2007 World Junior Championship and to silver at the 2008 World Championship.
