Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Wayne Simmonds
Wayne Simmonds was born in Scarborough, Ontario on August 26, 1988. He played his minor hockey for the Jr. Canadians in Toronto's GTHL before joining the Brockville Braves of the Central Junior A Hockey League for the 2005-06 season.

Simmonds would spend just one year in Brockville before joining the Ontario Hockey League, where he would play for the Owen Sound Attack and the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.

Simmonds was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the second round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, as the 61st overall pick and would make his NHL debut in 2008, quickly becoming a fan favorite in LA for his hard-nosed, no nonsense approach to the game.

After three seasons with the Kings, Simmonds' time on the west coast would come to an end. He was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers along with Brayden Schenn in exchange for Mike Richards.

During the 2013-14 season, Simmonds set career highs in goals and points scoring 29 goals and 60 points over 82 games. In 2015-16, Simmonds would reach the 30-goal plateau for the first time. Appearing in 81 games for the Flyers, he scored 32 times and added 28 assists to match a career-high with 60 points. He followed that up with his second consecutive 30-goal season.

As a pending free agent in the summer of 2019 and with the Flyers sitting outside of a playoff spot, Simmonds was among the most coveted players at the NHL trade deadline. On February 25, 2019, he was traded to the Nashville Predators in exchange for Ryan Hartman and a conditional draft pick.

On the international stage, Simmonds helped Canada to the gold medal at the 2008 World Junior Championships and to silver at the 2017 World Championships.
