Mark Katic was born on May 9, 1989 in Porcupine, Ontario. A product of the Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League, Katic was selected in the thrid round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Islanders and joined the club's AHL affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in 2009.

Katic made his NHL debut on February 24, 2011 against the Philadelphia Flyers. In total he would see action in 11 games for the Islanders during the 2010-11 season, registering a single assist.
