Ryan Thang was born on May 11, 1987 in Edina, Minnesota. He was selected in the third round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the Nashville Predators. Thang played for, and attended the University of Notre Dame from 2006-2010, being named to the CCHA All-Rookie Team in his freshman year.
Thang made his professional debut in the American Hockey League for the Predators' affiliate, the Milwaukee Admirals, during late stages of the 2009-10 season. He suited up for 12 games and recorded six points.
Thang would spend the majority of the 2011-12 season with Milwaukee, but would get his first taste of NHL action on October 31, 2011 for the Predators in a game against the Chicago Blackhawks.
In the summer of 2012 Thang would sign with Augsburger of the German Elite League.
