Timo Pielmeier was born July 7, 1989 in Deggendorf, West Germany. A third round draft choice of the San Jose Sharks in 2007, he would be traded to the Anaheim Ducks before ever suiting up for the club.

Pielmeier made his professional debut in 2009 with with the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL, where he became the tenth goaltender in league history to record a goal.

Pielmeier got his first taste of NHL action o February 19, 2010 against the St. Louis Blues.

On December 12, 2011, Pielmeier was traded along with defenceman Kurtis Foster, to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for defenceman Mark Fraser and forward Rod Pelley.

Traded to New Jersey by Anaheim with Kurtis Foster for Rod Pelley, Mark Fraser and New Jersey's 7th round pick (Jaycob Megna) in 2012 NHL Draft, December 12, 2011.
