Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Jay Leach
Jay Leach was born September 2, 1979 in Syracuse, New York. The fifth round, 115th overall selection of the Phoenix Coyotes in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, Leach is a graduate of Providence College.

A hulking defenseman, Leach played four seasons at Providence College registering 52 points (6-46-52) before making his professional debut with the ECHL's Mississippi Sea Wolves in 2001-02. Over the course of the next three seasons, Leach continued to toil in the minors with stops in both the AHL and ECHL before signing as a free-agent with the Boston Bruins in the summer of 2005.

Leach went on to play the majority of the 2005-06 season with the Bruins AHL affiliate in Providence before making his NHL debut with the parent club midway through the season.

In the summer of 2007 Leach inked a deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning as an unrestricted free agent, but was traded by the lightning in the days leading up to the NHL trade deadline to the Anaheim Ducks.

In the summer of 2008, Leach was once again an unrestricted free agent and was once again on the move. This time he inked a deal with the New Jersey Devils. On November 6, 2009, Leach was put on waiver by the Devils and claimed by the Montreal Canadiens. Less than a month later he was waived by the Canadiens and claimed by the San Jose Sharks.

On February 9, 2011, Leach was traded to the New Jersey Devils along with Steve Zalewski in exchange for Patrick Davis and Mike Swift.
