Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Fabian Brunnstrom
In 2008, Brunnstrom was regarded by some as one of the top prospects without an NHL contract. His 37 points in 54 games in the Swedish Elite League drew interest from many NHL teams including the Stanley Cup champion Red Wings and the team he would ultimately choose, the Dallas Stars.

After much fanfare, Brunnstrom's career got off to an inauspicious start as he was a healthy scratch for the Stars' first two games. That would change on October 15 when he became the third player in NHL history to record a hat trick in his first game (joining Alex Smart and Real Cloutier).

While it was unlikely he would live up to the hype that surrounded him in the summer of 2008, Brunnstrom's first NHL campaign was a successful one, recording 17 goals in 55 games.

After spending the majority of the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons in the American Hockey League, Brunnstrom was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs(one of the teams that originally sought his services) on January 13, 2011. He was then assigned to the Leafs' AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies.
