Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Jake Gardiner
Jake Gardiner was born on July 4, 1990, in Deephaven, Minnesota. Following his final year of high school he was selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the first round, 17th overall, of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

Gardiner would play three seasons of collegiate hockey in the NCAA with the University of Wisconsin where he would continue to improve his game at both ends of the ice. In his final collegiate season, the mobile defender recorded 41 points in 41 games to go along with a solid +21 rating.

On February 9, 2011, Gardiner's NHL rights were traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs along with forward Joffrey Lupul in exchange for defenceman Francois Beauchemin.

Gardiner would surprise many by cracking the Leafs 2011-12 opening night roster. In his first full professional campaign he would register 30 points in 75 games and provide the Leafs with a stable, puck-moving presence on the back end.

In 2013-14, Gardiner would set a new career-high with 10 goals. He also added 21 assists for 31 points, both of which were also career-bests. Gardiner would appear in 79 games for the Maple Leafs during the 2015-16 season and match he career-high with 31 points.

On the international stage, Gardiner has represented the United States three times which includes a gold medal performance at the World Junior Championship. He also appeared for the United States at the 2014 and 2015 World Championships.
