Vyacheslav 'Slava' Voynov was born on January 15, 1990, in Chelyabinsk, Russia. While playing in the Russian Super League he drew the attention of the Los Angeles Kings who selected him in the second round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

Voynov made his North American debut in the American Hockey League for the Manchester Monarchs during the 2008-09 season, where he put up impressive offensive totals. The following season, Voynov would continue his offensive growth, posting 51 points in 76 American League games.

Voynov would begin the 2011-12 season in the AHL, but would soon get his first taste of NHL action. He would appear in 54 regular season games for the Kings to go along with 20 post-season games. Voynov and the Kings would steamroll through the Western Conference and then the New Jersey Devils en route to winning the first Stanley Cup title in franchise history.
