Cody Goloubef was born on November 30, 1989 in Oakville, Ontario. He played his minor hockey in the OPJHL for the Milton Icehawks and then the Oakville Blades before attending the University of Wisconsin of the NCAA.
Goloubef was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2nd round (37th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
Following his collegiate career he would join the Blue Jackets' AHL affiliate, the Springfield Falcons for the 2010-11 season. H would appear in 50 games for the club, recording five goals and 12 assists.
Goloubef would get his first taste of NHL action during the 2011-12 season, seeing the ice for a single NHL game. He would spend the majority of the following season at the AHL level, but would suit up for 11 games for the Blue Jackets, recording the first goal of his NHL career along the way.
