Patrick Wiercioch was born on September 12, 1990 in Burnaby, British Columbia. Wiercioch spent two season at the University of Denver and was selected in the second round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the Ottawa Senators.

Wiercioch made his professional debut with the Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey during the 2010-11 season and would receive his first taste of NHL action that same year. He was summoned to the big club for their game against the Carolina Hurricanes on March 22, 2011. In total, he would suit up in eight games for the Senators in 2011, recording a pair of assists.

Though limited to just 53 games during the 2013-14 season, Wiercioch would still record four goals and 19 assists for a career-best 23 assists.

Wiercioch became an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2016 and on July 1, he signed a deal with the Colorado Avalanche. He would struggle to find a spot in the in the Avalanche lineup on a consistent basis and was limited to just 57 games during the 2016-17 season. At season's end, once again a free agent, Wiercioch signed with the Vancouver Canucks.

On the international stage, Wiercioch represented Canada at the 2015 World Championship where he helped his homeland to the gold medal.
