Brent Regner was born on May 17, 1989. He played his major junior hockey with the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League and was selected in the fifth round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Regner began his professional career in the American Hockey League with the Syracuse Crunch in 200910, notching 19 points in 56 games. His AHL career would also see stops in Peoria, Chicago and Portland before Regner cracked an NHL lineup.

On July 1, 2015, Regner signed a deal with the Florida Panthers and would join the club's AHL affiliate the following season. In 65 games for the Portland Pirates Regner scored five times and added 18 assists. His strong play was reward with his first recall to the NHL. In total, the blueliner appeared in seven games for the Panthers during the 2015-16 season. After one more season, spent entirely in the AHL, Regner became a free agent and on July 1, 2017, signed with the Dallas Stars.
