Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Matt Martin
Matthew Martin was born May 8, 1989 in Windsor, Ontario. Martin played his junior hockey for the Sarnia Sting, where the big centreman was named captain. He was selected in the fifth round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Islanders and joined the club's AHL affiliate in 2009-10. Martin got his first taste of NHL action in 2009-10 as well, appearing in five games for the Islanders, registering two points and 26 minutes in penalties.

With the Islanders, Martin would find a home a line with Casey Cizikas, and Cal Clutterbuck on what was considered by many to be the best and most physical fourth lines in the NHL.

On July 1, 2016, Martin's time in the Islanders' organization would come to an end. As an unrestricted free agent he signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
