Alexander Pechurski was born on June 4, 1990 in Magnitogorsk, USSR. A product of the Russian Superleague, Pechurski was selected in the fifth round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Pechurski made his North American debut for the Tri-City Americans of the Western Hockey League during the 2009-10 season.
On January 16, 2010, Pechurski would get his first taste of NHL action when injuries to the Penguins' top two goaltenders forced the club to sign the young netminder to a try-out contract. Though expecting only to serve as a backup, Pechurski was called into action when starter, John Curry, allowed five goals. In just over 35 minutes of play, Pechurski stopped 12 of 13 shots and was awarded third star of the game.
