Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Mark Barberio
Mark Barberio was born on March 23, 1990, in Montreal, Quebec. A product of the Quebec Major Junior League where he played for the Moncton Wildcats, Barberio was selected in the sixth round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Following four seasons with Moncton, which included a trip to the 2010 Memorial Cup tournament, Barberio made his professional debut in the American Hockey League for the Norfolk Admirals during the 2010-11 season.

Barberio would shine for the Admirals in his second season with the club. In 74 games he recorded 13 goals and 48 assist for 61 points. For his efforts he was awarded the Eddie Shore Award as the AHL's best defenceman. In addition to individual accolades, Barberio and the Admirals would set a professional hockey record for the longest winning streak, with 28 consecutive victories. The club would also capture the Calder Cup as the American Hockey League champions.

Though he would spend the majority of the 2012-13 season in the AHL, Barberio would get his first taste of NHL action during the lockout shortened campaign. On April 9, 2013, he made his NHL debut against the Ottawa Senators. He would go on to appear in one more game for the Lightning before being returned to the American League.

After playing in three seasons with the Lightning, Barberio left as an unrestricted free agent and signed a one year contract with the Montreal Canadiens.
