Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Matt Gilroy
Matt Gilroy was born on July 30, 1984 in North Bellmore, New York. A product of Boston University, Gilroy had an outstanding collegiate career. He was three-times an All-American and in 2009 he was awarded the Hobey Baker Award and helped the Terriers to and NCAA Championship.

Following his collegiate career, Gilroy garnered much attention as an undrafted free agent. He chose to sign close to home with New York Rangers. In a strong rookie campaign, the defenseman put up 15 points in 69 games and was named to the US squad at the 2010 World Championship held in Germany.

On July 2, 2011, Gilroy inked a deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning. His time in Florida would be brief however. On February 27, 2012, he was sent to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for Brian Lee.
