Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Jonas Gustavsson
Jonas Gustavsson was born on October 24, 1984. "The Monster" as he is called, was the top goaltender in the Swedish Elite League before signing with the Toronto Maple Leafs in the summer of 2009.

A heart ailment slowed down much of Gustavsson's first year in the NHL, limiting him to just 42 games for the club, but his 2.87 goals against average, on a club that finished 29th in the league was enough to earn him a spot on the Swedish team at 2010 Olympic Winter Games being held in Vancouver.

Following his rookie season Gustavsson was nominated for the Bill Masterton Trophy, awarded for "perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey".

After three seasons splitting time with the Maple Leafs and the Toronto Marlies, Gustavsson's rights were traded to the Detroit Red Wings for a seventh round draft pick. Soon after, he signed a two year contract with the Red Wings as the backup to Jimmy Howard.

After three seasons with the Red Wings, Gustavsson left as a free agent and signed a one year contract with the Boston Bruins on October 4, 2015.
