Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Victor Hedman
Drafted second overall at the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning, Victor Hedman joined the club the following season and immediately played a key role on the blueline. Averaging over 20 minutes a game for the Lightning, second among all rookies, the 6'6" defender showed signs of promise in an otherwise difficult season for the Lightning organization.

Following his rookie season Hedman joined the Swedish national team for the 2010 World Championships being held in Germany, where he helped his homeland to a bronze medal in the tournament.

During the 2013-14 season, Hedman had a career season where he scored 13 goals and 55 points in 75 games. The following season, he was instrumental in the Lightning making it all the way to the 2015 Stanley Cup Final where the team would lose to the Blackhawks in six games.

On December 17, 2016, Hedman became the Tampa Bay Lightning all-time franchise leader in points by a defenceman when he recorded his 254th career point.

In 2016-17, Hedman would record 16 goals and 56 assists for a career-high 72 points. He followed that up with a 63 point campaign the following season. His offensive production, combined with his strong defensive game, earned Hedman the Norris Trophy as the league's top defenceman. The 27-year-old became the third Swedish-born, and first Tampa Bay Lightning player to win the award.

On the international stage, Hedman has represented his native Sweden several times, including two silver medal performances at the 2008 and 2009 World Junior Championships. He also helped his homeland to the bronze medal at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.
