Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Anders Nilsson
Anders Nilsson was born March 19, 1990 in Luleň, Sweden. A product of the Swedish Elite League in his homeland, the goaltender was selected in the third round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Islanders.

Nilsson made his North American debut in the American Hockey League for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, the Islanders affiliate, in 2011. He would see action in 25 AHL games for the club, posting a solid goals-against-average of 2.42 and save percentage of .921. He would also see action in four NHL games during the 2011-12 season, including recording his first NHL win, a shutout, against the New Jersey Devils. In doing so, he became the first goalie in Islanders history to record a shutout for his first win.

After returning to Sweden for the 2014-15 season, Nilsson's rights were traded to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Nick Leddy.

He didn't stay in the Blackhawks' system very long as they would trade him less than three months later to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Liam Coughlin. Upon being traded to Edmonton, Nilsson signed a one year contract with the Oilers.

Nilsson would split time during the 2015-16 season between the Oilers and their AHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors. In 26 NHL games he posted a record of 10-12-2 with a 3.14 goals-against-average and .901 save percentage. In the days leading up to the 2016 NHL trade deadline he was traded to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for Niklas Lundstrom and a fifth round draft pick.

As a free agent in the summer of 2017, Nilsson signed a two-year deal with the Vancouver Canucks.
