Kevin Connauton was born on February 23, 1990 in Edmonton, Alberta. The 6’2 centre was drafted in the third round, 83rd overall, by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Despite garnering interest in the WHL, Connauton decided to play in the NCAA for the Western Michigan Broncos. For the Broncos he would earn an honourable mention to the CCHA All-Rookie team.

After being drafted by the Canucks, he was convinced to leave the NCAA and play for the WHL’s Vancouver Giants where they felt he would have a better chance of progressing. While playing for the Giants he would set a team record for most goals by a defenseman in one season with 24 and most points by a defenseman in one season with 72. He would be named to the WHL West First All-Start Team in his only season in the WHL.

Upon signing his entry level contract with the Vancouver Canucks, he was assigned to their AHL affiliate, the Manitoba Moose. The next season the Canucks changed their AHL affiliate to the Chicago Wolves as the newly formed Winnipeg Jets took over professional hockey in Manitoba. During the 2012 season Connauton would be selected to play in the AHL All-Star Classic. Connauton would play parts of the next two seasons in Chicago before being traded by the Canucks, along with a second round draft pick, to the Dallas Stars in exchange for Derek Roy on April 2, 2013. The Dallas Stars would immediately assign him to their AHL affiliate, the Texas Stars.

On October 24, 2013, Connauton would make his NHL debut with the Stars in a 5-1 victory over the Calgary Flames. He would get his first ever NHL point in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. On On November 18th, 2014, the Columbus Blue Jackets would pick up Connauton off waivers where he played 54 games with the Blue Jackets in the 2014-15 season.

Connauton was waived by the Blue Jackets during the 2015-16 season and was subsequently claimed by the Arizona Coyotes. He would finish the season with the Coyotes, appearing in 38 games and recording four goals and five assists.
