Kristopher Foucault was born on December 12, 1990 in Calgary, Alberta. Following successful Western Hockey League career, which saw stops in Swift Current, Kootenay and Calgary, Foucault joined the Minnesota Wild organization who had selected him in the fourth round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
Foucault made his professional debut in the American Hockey League with the Wild's affiliate, the Houston Aeros. He would spend the majority of the 2011-12 season with Houston, appearing in 70 games and recording 14 goals. He would get his first taste of NHL action on February 14, 2012, suiting up for the Wild in 2-1 loss at the hands of the Anaheim Ducks.
