Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Connor Knapp
Connor Knapp was born on May 1, 1990 in York, New York. The 6’6 goaltender was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the sixth round, 164th overall, in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. When he was selected he had already committed himself to playing for Miami University of Ohio to play for the RedHawks.

Knapp would play four years of university hockey while getting his education. In his rookie year in 2008-09 he was named to the CCHA All-Rookie Team and in his final year in 2011-12 he was named as the CCHA Best Goaltender. At the conclusion of his university career, Knapp signed his entry level contract with the Buffalo Sabres where they assigned him to their AHL affiliate, the Rochester Americans.

In his first few years with the Sabres organization, he would spend time split between the Americans and the ECHL. Between the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons he would play for three ECHL teams which are the Greenville Road Warriors, Florida Everblades, and Alaska Aces. During the 2013-14 season, Knapp would get a shot at playing in the NHL.

Due to a large turnover of goaltenders within the Sabres organization, Knapp would be called up to the Americans once again where he would play three games. After that on April 12, 2014, Knapp would get his NHL debut where he came in relief of Matt Hackett in a 4-1 loss to the Boston Bruins. His appearance set an NHL record for the most goaltenders dressing by one team in a single NHL season.

The following season, Knapp would return to the ECHL where he would play the entire season with the Reading Royals. His strong play led to the Philadelphia Flyers’ AHL affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, to sign him to an AHL contract for the 2015-16 season.
