Nate Prosser was born on May 7, 1986 in Elk River, Minnesota. Though not drafted by an NHL club, Prosser followed up his collegiate career at Colorado College by signing as a free agent with the Minnesota Wild on March 18, 2010. Prosser would appear in the final three games of the 2009-10 season for the Wild, recording the first assist of his career.

Prosser would establish himself as a mainstay on the Wild blueline. In 2011-12 he appeared in 51 games, scoring a goal and recording a career-high 11 assists. He was limited to just 17 games the following year, but would rebound in 2013-14 to suit up in 53 games.

On August 3, 2017, Prosser's time in the Wild organization would come to an end. He signed as an unrestricted free agent with the St. Louis Blues.
