Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Cam Talbot
Cam Talbot was born on July 5, 1987 in Caledonia, Ontario. The 6í3 goaltender was not drafted during his draft year of 2005, Talbot elected to hone his skills at the collegiate level by committing to the University of Alabama in Huntsville to play for the Chargers.

Talbot would play three seasons in Alabama from 2007 through 2010. During his sophomore season, Talbot was named to the All-College Hockey America Second Team and was named the Most Valuable Player in the CHA tournament. His play at the collegiate level attracted NHL teams to the point where after his third year, he signed as an undrafted unrestricted free agent with the New York Rangers.

Upon arriving to the Rangersí system in the 2010-11 season, Talbot was sent down to their AHL affiliate the Connecticut Whale (formerly and now currently the Hartford Wolf Pack). He would end up splitting his season with the Whale and the ECHLís Greenville Road Warriors. Talbot would spend the next two seasons in the AHL, taking over the reigns as their starting goalie.

During the 2013-14 season Talbot was called up to the New York Rangers when their backup, Martin Biron was demoted to the AHL. He would make his NHL debut on October 24, 2013 in a 2-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers. He would get his first win on October 26, 2013 in a 3-2 overtime victory over the Detroit Red Wings and he would also earn his first shut out on November 16, 2013 in a 1-0 victory over the Montreal Canadiens. He would cement himself as the Rangers backup goalie throughout this season due to his fine play.

On February 3, 2015, the Rangers starting netminder, Henrik Lundqvist was hit in the throat with a puck, injuring his neck. This made Talbot the Rangers temporary starting goalie. During this time period Talbot made the start in the next 24 games where he had a 17-4-3 record. This helped the Rangers to the Presidents' Trophy as the team with the NHLís best record. It also made the hockey world believe that Talbot should be a starting goalie somewhere in the NHL.

On June 27, 2015, Talbot's time in the Rangers' organization would come to an end. He was traded to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for three draft picks.

Talbot would start slowly for the Oilers during the 2015-16 season, but his play would improve as the season went on. He would go on to appear in 56 games for the club, posting a 2.55 goals-against-average and a .917 save percentage.

At the 2015 World Championship, Talbot backstopped Canada to the gold medal, tying a tournament record with four shutouts.
