Beau Bennett was born on November 27, 1991 in Gardena, California. He played junior hockey for the Penticton Vees of the BCHL where he shined offensively, earning the Brett Hull Trophy as the league's top scorer as well as being named the 2009-10 rookie of the year.

Bennet played collegiately for the University of Denver for two collegiate seasons and was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round (20th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

Bennett made his professional debut in the American Hockey League for the Wilkes-Barre Penguins during the 2012-13 season. In 39 games for the club he would record seven goals and 21 assists. Bennett would also see his first NHL action during the 2012-13 season. He would suit up for 26 games for Pittsburgh and record three goals to go along with 11 helpers.

Bennett played in 33 games for Pittsburgh during the 201516 season as well as one playoff game as the Penguins marched to the fourth Stanley Cup title in franchise history.

On June 25, 2016, Bennett's time in the Pittsburgh organization would come to an end. He was traded to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for a third round draft pick. Bennett would appear in 65 games for the Devils during the 2016-17 season, scoring eight times and adding 11 assists.

In the summer of 2017, as an unrestricted free agent, Bennett signed with the St. Louis Blues.

Traded to New Jersey by Pittsburgh for Detroit's 3rd round pick (previously acquired, Pittsburgh selected Connor Hall) in 2016 NHL Draft, June 25, 2016. Signed as a free agent by St. Louis, July 1, 2017.
