Mark Pysyk was born on January 11, 1992 in Sherwood Park, Alberta. In 2007 he became the first ever draft pick of the Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League and spent his entire junior career with the club, winning the WHL championship and qualifying for the Memorial Cup in 2012.
Pysyk was selected in the first round, 23rd overall, in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Buffalo Sabres. He would make his professional debut at the American Hockey League level for the Sabres' affiliate, the Rochester Americans, in 2012. In 57 games for the Americans Pysyk would record four goals and 14 assists while playing a solid defensive game.
Pysyk got his first taste of NHL action during the lockout shortened 2012-13 season. He would suit up for 19 games for the Sabres and immediately display a maturity to his game that had been lacking on the Sabres defence corps.
On June 25, 2016, Pysyk's time in the Sabres' organization would come to an end. He was traded to the Florida Panthers along with a pair of draft picks in exchange for Dmitri Kulikov and a second round pick.
On the international stage Pysyk helped Canada capture the bronze medal at the 2012 World Junior Ice Hockey Championship.
