Kevin Gravel was born on March 6, 1992 in Kingsford, Michigan. A product of the USHL, he was selected in the fifth round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Los Angeles Kings. The big defenceman would then attend St. Cloud State University where he would spend four seasons as a member of the Huskies.

Following his collegiate career, Gravel joined the Kings AHL affiliate, the Manchester Monarchs, in the late stages of the 2013-14 season. The following season Gravel would establish himself on the Monarchs' blueline and help the club to the first Calder Cup title in franchise history.

Gravel made his NHL debut on February 11, 2016 and would appear in five goals total for the Kings during the 2015-16 season. The following season Gravel would take the ice in 49 games for the Kings, recording the first goal of his NHL career and adding six assists. On July 1, 2018, Gravel signed as an unrestricted free agent with the Edmonton Oilers.
