Zane McIntyre was born on August 20, 1992, in Grand Forks, North Dakota. A standout goaltender for the Fargo Force of the USHL, he was selected in the sixth round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Boston Bruins and would go on to attend the University of North Dakota.

Following his second collegiate campaign, McIntyre joined the Bruins' AHL affiliate in Providence for the 2015-16 season. In 31 games he posted 14 wins and a 2.68 goals-against-average. He would follow that up with another 31 game season in 2016-17 improving his win total to 21 and reducing his goals-against-average to 2.03.

McIntyre got his first taste of NHL action during the 2016-17 season, making his NHL debut on October 25 against the Minnesota Wild.
