Keith Kinkaid was born on July 4, 1989 in Farmingville, New York. He played collegiate hockey for two seasons with the Union College Dutchmen in the ECAC Hockey League where he solidified himself as the team's number one goalie. In his first season with the Dutchmen in 2009-2010, Kinkaid recorded 12 wins, 8 loses, and 3 ties in 25 games. His athleticism in net was good enough to land him a spot on the ECAC's Third All-Star Team in addition to the All-Rookie Team. In his second season with the club, Kinkaid continued his dependable play and was named to the ECAC's First All-Star Team, the AHCA's (American Hockey Coaches Association) First All-American Team, and the NCAA's East First All-American Team. His solid 1.99 goals against average and 0.920 save percentage also earned him the Ken Dryden Award as the top goaltender in the ECAC. In 2011, Keith Kinkaid signed an entry-level contract with the New Jersey Devils as a free-agent. Shortly after, he made his professional debut in the American Hockey League for New Jerseys AHL affiliate, the Albany Devils, where he spent two seasons. In 2011-2012, his first season with the club, Kinkaid appeared in 42 games, recording 17 wins, three of them being shutouts, and posted a 0.904 save percentage. Kinkaid made his NHL debut on March 5, 2013 against the Tampa Bay Lightning in relief of starting goalie Johan Hedberg.
