Adam Larsson was born on November 12, 1992 in Skelleftea, Sweden. A standout defender in his homeland in the Swedish Elite League, Larsson was selected fourth overall by the New Jersey Devils in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Larsson made his NHL debut for the Devils on opening night of the 2011-12 season, becoming just the second 18-year-old defender to suit up for the club in franchise history. He scored his first NHL goal on November 11, 2011, or 11/11/11 against the Washington Capitals.

Injuries limited Larsson to just 65 games in his rookie, but he did not fail to impress. He proved to be a stable force on the Devils back end and contributed 18 points.

Larsson returned to the Devils lineup for his first NHL playoff game during the second round of the 2011 playoffs against the Philadelphia Flyers, scoring a goal in his first game back.

Larsson would appear in 64 games for the Devils during the 2014-15 season, scoring three times and adding 21 assists. The following year he would suit up in all 82 games for New Jersey, emerging as the club's top defenceman.

On June 29, 2016. Larsson's time with New Jersey would come to an end. He was traded to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Taylor Hall.

On the international stage, Larsson has represented his native Sweden several times, including the 2010 World Junior Championship, where he helped his homeland bring home the a bronze medal and in 2016 at the World Championship.
