Josh Manson was born on October 7, 1991 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. The product of the Northeastern University Huskies was drafted in the sixth round, 160th overall, by the Anaheim Ducks.

During his time as a Huskie he would be named to the Hockey East Second All-Star Team and the Hockey East Best Defensive Defenceman in 2014. After Manson would forgo his final year of eligibility in the NCAA, the Anaheim Ducks would assign him to the Norfolk Admirals to end the 2013-14 season.

In the 2014-15 season, Mason would split time between the Admirals and the Ducks where he would appear in 28 games scoring three points. The 2015-16 season would be spent entirely at the NHL level. In 71 games for the Ducks, Manson scored five times and added 10 assists, while providing the club a physical presence on the back end.
