Max McCormick was born May 1, 1992, in Antigo, Wisconsin. A product of the USHS, he was selected in the sixth round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft by the Ottawa Senators and go on to attend Ohio State University.

Following four collegiate seasons, McCormick joined the Senators AHL affiliate, the Binghamton Senators, for the 2014-15 season. In 62 games for the club he scored 10 times and added 10 assists.

McCormick would continue to progress during his second professional season. In 57 games for Binghamton he scored 15 times and added 15 assists. He would also see action in 20 games at the NHL level during the 2015-16 season, scoring twice and adding two assists.

The 2016-17 season would be spent primarily at the AHL level with the Binghamton Senators. In 66 games for the club, McCormick scored 21 times and added 15 assists. He would also suit up in seven games for Ottawa over the course of the season.
