Jacob Trouba was born on February 26, 1994, in Rochester, Michigan. The 6í2 defenceman played junior in the USHL with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program when he was drafted in the first round, ninth overall, by the Winnipeg Jets in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Prior to joining the Jets organization, Trouba had committed to play at the University of Michigan to play for the Wolverines in the 2012-13 season. He would play one season in the NCAA, picking up a plethora of awards such as being named to the All-CCHA Rookie Team, All-CCHA First Team, CCHA All-Tournament Team, named as an AHCA West First-Team All-American, and the All-CCHA Best Offensive Defenseman. After his one season in the NCAA, Trouba signed his NHL entry level deal with the Winnipeg Jets.

Trouba would make the jump straight to the NHL right after college. He would make his NHL debut on October 1, 2013 where he would score his first career NHL goal in a 5-4 victory over the Edmonton Oilers. He would make in immediate impact on the Jetsí blueline as he would play 65 games in each of his first two years in the NHL scoring 22 and 29 points respectively.

Limited to just 60 games during the 2016-17 season, Trouba still managed to established new career-highs in assists and points with 25 and 33 respectively. During the 2018 post-season, Trouba appeared in all 17 games for the Jets, helping Winnipeg reach the Western Conference Final for the first time in franchise history.

On the international stage, Trouba has represented the United States on numerous times, including the 2013 World Junior Championships where he was named as the tournamentís best defenceman.
